Convert pixels to inches for print
Type a size in pixels to get inches, centimeters, millimeters and points at your DPI. Or type a print size to get the pixels you need.
Use 300 for standard print, 96 for CSS and web, 72 for legacy screen and PDF points.
The same size at every common DPI
Your 2,550 × 3,300 px stays fixed. The printed size changes with DPI.
| DPI | Pixels (W × H) | Inches (W × H) | Centimeters (W × H) | Millimeters (W × H) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 72 DPI | 2,550 × 3,300 px | 35.4167 × 45.8333 in | 89.9583 × 116.4167 cm | 899.5833 × 1,164.1667 mm |
| 96 DPI | 2,550 × 3,300 px | 26.5625 × 34.375 in | 67.4688 × 87.3125 cm | 674.6875 × 873.125 mm |
| 150 DPI | 2,550 × 3,300 px | 17 × 22 in | 43.18 × 55.88 cm | 431.8 × 558.8 mm |
| 300 DPI | 2,550 × 3,300 px | 8.5 × 11 in | 21.59 × 27.94 cm | 215.9 × 279.4 mm |
| 600 DPI | 2,550 × 3,300 px | 4.25 × 5.5 in | 10.795 × 13.97 cm | 107.95 × 139.7 mm |
How the formula works
A pixel has no fixed physical size. It only gets one when you say how many pixels fit in an inch. That number is PPI (pixels per inch), and it links every conversion on this page.
At 96 PPI, the CSS standard, 1 px is 1/96 inch (about 0.26 mm). At 300 PPI, 1 px is about 0.085 mm, which is why 300 looks sharper in print.
Worked example: 1080 px
At 96 PPI, 1080 ÷ 96 = 11.25 in. At 300 PPI, 1080 ÷ 300 = 3.6 in. Same pixels, different printed size.

FAQ: print sizes in Figma, Canva and more
How do I convert pixels to inches?
Divide the pixel count by your PPI. For example, 2550 px ÷ 300 PPI = 8.5 in. If you do not know the PPI, use 96 for web graphics and 300 for print.
How many pixels are in an inch?
It depends on the PPI. CSS defines 96 px per inch. Print work usually uses 300 px per inch. Older Mac screens and PDF points use 72.
How do I convert inches to pixels?
Multiply inches by your PPI. A 5 × 7 in photo at 300 PPI needs 1500 × 2100 px.
How do I convert pixels to centimeters?
Divide pixels by PPI to get inches, then multiply by 2.54. For example, 1000 px at 300 PPI is 3.33 in, or 8.47 cm.
How many pixels do I need for a 4 × 6 photo?
At 300 PPI, multiply each side by 300. A 4 × 6 in print needs 1200 × 1800 px. An 8 × 10 in print needs 2400 × 3000 px.
Are DPI and PPI the same thing?
For this math, yes. PPI describes pixels in an image or on a screen. DPI describes dots a printer places per inch. If you set both to the same number, one image pixel maps to one printed dot.
What frame size do I use in Figma for a print design?
Figma has no DPI setting; frames are measured in px. Two common approaches: build at 72 px per inch (8.5 × 11 in is 612 × 792 px) and export at about 4.17x for 300 DPI, or build the frame at full print size (2550 × 3300 px for Letter at 300 DPI) and export at 1x. Figma's PDF export treats 1 px as 1 pt, so a 612 × 792 frame prints at Letter size.
How does Canva handle print sizes?
Canva lets you create designs in inches, cm or mm, and shows px sizes at 96 px per inch (Letter appears as 816 × 1056 px). Download as PDF Print for print-ready output, which Canva exports at 300 DPI. If you upload images, aim for 300 PPI at the size they will be placed.
What about Photoshop and Illustrator?
In Photoshop, open Image Size, turn off Resample, and set the resolution to change the printed inches without changing pixels. To hit a size, set width and height in inches with 300 PPI. Illustrator works in points, so 1 px equals 1 pt (72 per inch) unless you change the document.
Why does my print look blurry?
Usually the image has too few pixels for the printed size. A 1200 px wide image at 8 in wide is only 150 PPI. Use the converter above to find the pixels you need, then re-export or source a larger image.
What DPI should I use for posters and banners?
Flyers, cards and brochures: 300 DPI. Posters viewed at arm's length: 150–200 DPI. Large banners viewed from far away: 72–100 DPI is often fine. Check your printer's specs before you export.
